Connections between the families of elm bend and the johnston family

Bobby Caise in the 1930s standing near what appears to be the Johnston family cemetery.  Though the photo is blurred, the gate, solid appearing stone wall, and pasture beyond suggest the current cemetery configuration.Three graves outside the cemetery are reported to be those of  enslaved people.

John Elmer Caise WWI registration, witnessed by W.W. (Wallace) Johnston. John Elmer asked for an exemption as he was responsible for his widowed mother and two younger brothers.

Ruth Emma Wheat, daughter of Frank Sr. and Ida, signed her name four places in the attic above the kitchen in the Johnston house: on the wall and on the mantel.  She also wrote Lee Memorial and a number of sums.  Her name is written there in another hand as well.  We speculate she was learning to write her name.

Annie Eugenia (b. 1874) and Ida (b.1881) Johnston signed their names on the mantel in the an attic room, where later Ruth Emma Wheat (b.1911) signed hers.  Annie and Ida were sisters of Wallace Johnston.

Ruth Emma Wheat signed her name on the wallpaper in an attic room in the Johnston house.  Ruth Emma was born in 1911 to Frank and Ida Wheat. She married Horace Harris in 1929 and moved to Canton, Ohio.
